We’re looking for an experienced EHS Engineer who’s ready to take ownership, coach others, and push safety standards to the next level. As part of the Engineering, Validation & Maintenance (EVM) team, you’ll help shape a safe, compliant, and forward-thinking working culture—one that powers innovation in life-saving therapies.

Responsibilities

  • As the EHS Engineer, you’ll act as the subject matter expert for all Environment, Health & Safety activities across the site’s technical operations.
  • Your role will include:
  • Leading, developing, and improving EH&S systems and standards (e.g. LOTOTO, working at height, permit to work)
  • Coaching and training team members to elevate safety performance
  • Conducting risk assessments and supporting project teams with EH&S input
  • Participating in audits and inspections (ISO 14001, audits, government bodies)
  • Leading or contributing to incident investigations and follow-up actions
  • Creating and delivering training on EH&S-related topics
  • Driving sustainable safety improvements aligned national standards

Profile
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience in EH&S roles, preferably in life sciences, pharma, or similar industries
  • Experience with ISO standards (especially ISO 14001)
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • A Higher Safety Expert certification (HVK) is a strong plus
  • Fluent in Dutch and English

Practicalities
  • Location: Leiden, Netherlands
  • Start date: May/June (flexible)
  • Duration: 12 month, potential for direct permanent contract with thereafter
  • Languages required: Dutch & English (spoken and written)
  • Employment type: Full-time, no freelancers
