Technician – Protein Production

For our client – a pioneering biotechnology company based in Groningen, The Netherlands – I am looking for a Technician – Protein Production to join their dynamic R&D team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to novel proteomics and metabolomics technologies through hands-on protein expression and purification.

Key responsibilities:
  • Perform heterologous protein expression in Escherichia coli using various expression systems.
  • Purify proteins using techniques such as affinity chromatography (His-tag, GST-tag, etc.), ion exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography (SEC).
  • Carry out molecular cloning workflows, including PCR, restriction digestion, ligation, and bacterial transformation.
  • Analyze protein samples via SDS-PAGE and spectrophotometric assays.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Assist in troubleshooting and optimizing expression and purification protocols.
  • Support lab organization tasks, including reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with researchers, share findings, and contribute to project discussions.

Key requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in protein expression and purification.
  • Experience with FPLC (ÄKTA system) or other automated purification platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques—especially cloning, PCR, and plasmid preparation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow standard protocols and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
